I am a Learning Adviser at the University of Waikato and I work with students at all levels and across subject areas within the university. As well as meeting with students face-to-face and faciitating workshops I create online resources for self-paced learning.

More ramblings
I could get to enjoy this blogging especially now that I have managed to get the link into the paper. However, there is something about sitting in front of a blank page and wondering whether I have anything worth saying or whether anyone would want to read anything I have to say. Hence I can understand why so many of our students hesitate to make entries into the discussion forums until the last possible moment when learning online. Must say I did get a sense of satisfaction having finally got my blog set up and the link into Wikieducator working.

It took me ages to get hang of Wikieducator and I always get a great sense of satisfaction whenever I set something up there.
ReplyDeleteI agree that this course is a great place to start to get a feel for what it is like to be a student. So don't be afraid to give me feedback as we go along as I can make sure you have a good learning experience.
Hi Trish,
ReplyDeleteDo you work in specific subject areas, or do you support students in lots of disciplines?
Looking forward to working with you.
Cheers,
Chris
You've got three people's attention so far. You must be doing something right.
ReplyDeleteLook forward to working with you over the coming while.
Hi Trish,
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff, your page looks great. And it's nice to find I'm not the only participant who is not a mid-wife! Just joking Jade and Mary :-)
Like you I'm working to get online teaching a core part of course in my faculty and that means up-skilling myself at a great rate. Could be worse, as I teacher-educator I don't have to face the cyber-generation first hand. But that is all part of the fun.
One way I interact in forum is to ask questions, So like Chris, I'd like to know about whether or not you teach content too?
Maurice
Hi Trish.
ReplyDeleteI'm another of those folk who find the Wiki code a challenge. I suspect it's very good for me to have to go behind the cool editing bars many of the tools have now.
I also am curious about your discipline. I come from a long time in both education and social work and have worked with learners aged from 3 months to 75.
Simply have to keep using new technology as it becomes of use.
Look forward to further engagement with you Trish.
Willie
@Willie I have to admit that Wikieducator is a challenge, even with the new rich text editor. I have used it for this course as a measure to develop my skills, but if I was starting in wikis for the first time, I would use Wikispaces.
ReplyDeleteAgreed Sarah, Wikispaces is a good tool.
